江戸前期の画家。通称は右近。剃髪して養朴と号した。別号に耕寛斎,青白斎など。狩野尚信の子で木挽町狩野家2代目。江戸城や禁裏などの障壁画制作に参加したほか,幕府が朝鮮国王や琉球国中山王に贈った絵も制作する。1704年法眼,1706年に法印になる。絵はおおむね探幽風を踏襲し,強い個性には欠けるが,探幽没後狩野家の重鎮となる。
A pair of hanging scroll painting, tiger and dragon, Edo period,
18th century. Signed Furukawa Sou, the pseudonym of Kano Tsunenobu
and sealed.It is painted on silk with ink and accompanied by a
scroll bar with ivory end. It comes in two old paulownia wood
storage boxes.
Kano Tsunenobu (1636-1713)was the successor of his father, Kano
Naonobu(1607-1650). After his father’s death,he became the head of
the Kobiki-cho line of the Kano School. The Tokugawa government
retained him as a court painter.It has been said he produced
paintings to send for the Kings of Korea and Ryukyu (present day
Okinawa in Japan).He is known as to have strengthened the foundation
of Kano school.
Condition:The scroll is in good condition with some foxing and marks
on the painting and light stains and minor damages on the mounting.
