明治-大正時代の日本画家。
天保11年3月10日生まれ。もと筑前福岡藩士。維新後は大阪にうつって大阪南画壇の重鎮となる。山水・花鳥にすぐれ,とくに竹林を得意とした。門下に水田竹圃、赤松雲嶺らがいる。昭和3年3月5日死去。89歳。名は純。字は子純。通称は解三。作品に「松石佳霊図」など。

本紙は経年による薄汚れありますが概ね良好です。
表装は染み、汚れなくきれいです。

 


A very fine ink wash painting of sparrows rest in bamboo tree. Early 20th Century.
Painted on silk with ink. Signed Chikugai Jun, which is his original name, and sealed.
This piece is accompanied by old paulownia wood box.

Himejima Chikugai (1840-1928) was a Japanese painter active during Meiji – Taisho period.
He was once a samurai retained by Daimyo in Fukuoka and after the Meiji Restoration, he became a leading painter of Japanese Nan-ga (Southern literati painting) in Osaka Nan-ga art circle.
