橋本関雪 (はしもとかんせつ) (1883−1945)
明治-昭和時代前期の日本画家。片岡公曠,竹内栖鳳にまなぶ。
文展で連続特選となり,大正8年の第1回帝展から審査員。中国や日本の古画を研究し、,とくに動物画に格調ある画風を確立した。帝室技芸員,芸術院会員。昭和20年2月26日死去。63歳。兵庫県出身。本名は関一。代表作に「玄猿」「木蘭詩」「長恨歌」,著作に「南画への道程」など。
【蘇州の春】は、大正2年(1913)揚子江を溯り重慶に至り、さらに上海、浙江省、蘇州、北京、満州、朝鮮などを経て中国大陸を遊行した際の作品です。
後藤 杏塢 (1907−1973)
日本画家。明治40年長野県に生れる。
Japanese hanging scroll painting, early Taisho period, early 20th
century. Painted on paper with ink and light pigments. This piece
accompanies ivory scroll end. A fine painting depicts a spring scene
in Suzhou in China. Suzhou is a city located in the southeast of
Jiangusu in Eastern China, adjacent to Shanghai Municipality. Suzhou
is famous for its classical gardens and regarded as one of the four
most famous classical gardens in China. It has been added to the
list of the UNESCO world Heritage Sites in 1997 and 2000. The artist
Hashimoto Kansetsu executed this painting after traveled throughout
China and Korea in 1913. There is an inscription on the paulownia
wood box by Goto Kyo’u (1907-1973), who was a Japanese shin-nanga
painter (new literati painting) studied under Kansetsu,
authenticating the painting.
Hashimoto Kansetsu (1883-1945) was a Japanese painter active in
Meiji-early Showa period (1868-1989). He studied under Takeuchi
Seiho (1864-1942) and enthusiastically studied old Chinese and
Japanese painting. His former residence in Kyoto is now a museum of
his work called the Hakusasonso (Hashimoto Kansetsu Memorial House).
Condition: It is in very good condition with no stain or damage.
