江戸後期の文人画家。昨州生。はじめは池大雅の有力門人で大阪文人画檀の重鎮であった福原五岳に画を学ぶ。藩士として江戸に定住後は、藩の重臣として勤める一方、谷文晁、増山雪斎ら江戸の文人たちとの交流を深め研鑽に励む。
本紙は、汚れがあります。表装に大きい染み、汚れがあります。

A fine painting of the sixteen Arhats, the Buddha’s disciples
(Japanese: “rakan”, Chinese: “luohan”) gathering in a sacred
mountain.
The sixteen Buddha’s disciples remained in the mortal world to
defend Buddhist doctrine by the Buddha’s order. The painting dated
on eight month in 1806.
Painted on silk with ink and pigments. This piece comes in a double
poulownia wood storage boxes with an
inscription by Watanabe Kaseki (1852-1930) authenticating the
painting.
Hirose Taizan (1750-1813)was a Japanese nanga painter (Japanese
literati painting) flourished in late Edo
period (1603-1867) of Japan. He was first trained under Fukuhara
Gogaku (1730-1799), who was one of the most
powerful pupils of Ikeno Taiga (1723-1776) and leading artist in
Osaka literati circles. He served as a
retainer of daimyo after resided permanently in Edo (present day
Tokyo) and mingled with literati community in
Edo including Tani Buncho(1763-1840).
Watanabe Kaseki (1852-1930) was a Japanese artist active in Meiji -
early Showa (1868-1989) period of Japan.
He learnt painting from the second son of Watanabe Kazan
(1793-1841), and Samurai artist (artist of Japanese
warrior), Watanabe Shoka (1835-1887). After Shoka’s death, Kaseki
became a successor of Watanabe family. He
was adept at landscape and human figure paintings.
Condition:The painting is in good condition with insignificant
slight dirt due to its age. There are some light stains on the
mounting.
