Tsuitate screen

Japanese screens such as byobu screens and tsuitate screens were originated from China. In olden
times they were called tsuitate shoji, which was a screen held between wood blocks so as to be able
to easily move and serving both as a screen and as decoration. Screens are now decorated with
calligraphic painting, sculpture, dyeing and weaving, or glasswork. Some screens are also made for
practical use and furnished with a mirror, hat peg or even an umbrella stand.
