The painting was suffering severe damage in the middle section. The mineral
pigments were also widely exfoliated. After a close consultation with the owner
we decided that a major restoration using complementary colours and brushes
was not necessary and it was better to keep the painting in it’s current condition.
The piece was then mounted on gold brocade which was dyed for an antique
effect and meibutsu-kire (famous fabric) called koya-kire was used consistent
with its age. |
