The history It is said that
the temple was opened by Gyoki Bosatsu. Kobo Daishi visited there in the Konin era, he
followed the secret process of Muryoji for twenty-seven days, then Amida Nyorai appeared
just at the day of the complection of a vow, so Taishi carved the shape of it, made it the
principal image of Buddha, and decided to make the temple the second Buddhist temple.
However the halo of the principal image of Buddha reached offshore of Naruto, and
disturbed fishery and navigation, so they built a little hill in front of the main temple,
and cut off the halo. It is said that the hill was called Nisshozan by this historical
fact. After that the temple and the pagoda were destroyed by the fire caused by war by
Modochika Chosogabe, but they were built one by one, and the main temple was rebuilt 2 in
the Mainji era (1659). By a car It is 1.5 kilomaters, takes about five minutes from the
first Buddhist temple. |

If you go up further the 49 steps of stone, there is the main temple on the front, Amida Nyorai of the principal image of Buddha (the inportant cultural property of the nation) is installed in the temple, the picture of hell and the Buddhist paradice is hanged out on the face of the wall. There is Taishido at the little high place on the right hand side of the main temple, and there is the Japanese cedar of the long life which was planted in person by Kobo Daishi at the side of the bowl for water to purify by washing hands on the way to the place to offer a copy of a sutra from there. The old tree which passed some generation from it planted binds a straw festoon around it, and it rises high, it is said that if you touch the grain of wood, a long life is given. The beautiful garden which is spreaded white sand all over in front of the kitchen of a temple gives a visitor to the temple peace of mind. |
